How To Pray At Your School - May 19-21

Suggested Resource for Students Leading an e pule kakou Group in School

∙ Set the time and place of the prayer meeting. Get the okay from your principal or teacher.
∙ One week before May 19th ask your principal or teachers what the needs of the school are.
∙ Invite others to come to E Pule Kakou.

--- Welcome and Opening Prayer [2 min]

Thank you for coming out to e pule kakou! We want to spend time praying and blessing each other and our school and give thanks to God. Prayer is simply talking to God, as you would with a close friend or family member. Don’t worry about others around you and what they’re saying—it’s a conversation between you and God. E Pule Kakou (let us pray together):

Dear Heavenly Father,
We want to invite Your presence to be here. We ask for more of Your love and joy in this place. We ask that You would establish Your Kingdom in our hearts and in our school. I ask, Jesus, that You would bless each person here. Speak to them and show them how much You love them. We ask that You would teach us how to pray. And we thank You for gathering us together today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

--- Prayer of Thanksgiving [2-3 min]

You can pray “Hawaiian Style” (aloud and all at the same time) and instruct everyone to thank God for everything that comes to mind! As the prayers begin to fade off, have someone close in prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Seeing that we are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, we come before you today and thank you for all of the blessings you have given to us! We thank you for our families. We thank you for the people that you have placed in our lives. Thank you for the privilege it is to live in Hawaii and be at this school. Thank you for our health and the material blessings you’ve given to us. Please help us to always have an attitude of gratitude. Thank you for your grace in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

--- Prayer of Blessings [2-3 min]

You can pray “Hawaiian Style” (aloud and all at the same time) and instruct everyone to pray blessings over the school—students, faculty, and staff. As the prayers begin to fade off, have someone close in prayer:

Dear Jesus,
We ask that Your Kingdom come and Your will be done here in this school as it is in Heaven! We bless our teachers. We pray that the teachers would be able to do the best job possible. Please help us to be good students. We pray for the faculty and staff of our school. We pray that You would bless them with wisdom from Heaven. Please help them in all of their decisions and give them guidance. We bless our fellow students. We bless our friends. We bless our enemies. We pray that Your love would fill this place! We pray that drug-use would go down! We pray that grades would improve! We pray that there would be no more violence and fighting! We pray that we would have good and healthy relationships! We pray that You would use our school to be a blessing to everyone around us! We ask all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

--- Prayer for the needs of the school [5 min]

Mention the needs of the school that your principal or teacher told you about. You can lead everyone in “Hawaiian Style” prayer and call out the different needs or have designated students to pray for each request.

--- Blessing each other [2-3 min]

Close this time by praying blessings on each other. They can pair up or you can have them pray for the person next to them. Ask them: “What would you like God to do for you in the next week?”

--- Thank everyone for coming out.

Let them know about the different Christian clubs on campus or any other events that are coming up.

How To Pray At Work -

How To Pray With Your Family - May 23rd

∙ Gather the family together before Sunday Dinner
∙ Say: “Before we eat tonight, we want to give thanks for all the blessings that we have. E Pule Kakou (let us pray together)”
∙ You can pray your own prayer, or pray the Lord’s Prayer, or pray the “Pre-written Prayer” below:

Dear Heavenly Father,
We gather together as a family to thank you for the many ways You
bless us every day.
Thank you, Lord, for our family and the families of Hawaii. We thank
you for our friends. We bless each one of them now. We ask you, Lord,
to continue to prosper them in every way. Father, I ask that you bless
each member of our family. (Name them in your prayer).
And then, Father, thank You for our health, our jobs, our homes, and
the food that we have. We are truly blessed!
As we close this time of giving thanks, Father, we lift up the State
of Hawaii before You. We ask You, Lord, to release the blessings of
heaven upon our economy, the Department of Education and upon
our government officials. We ask You to create new jobs for the un-
employed, to heal broken families, and to deliver us from evil.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
